Congregation B'nai Israel Hosts Comedy Night on November 1st

Two nationally acclaimed comedians will perform at a Comedy Night sponsored by Congregation B'nai Israel of Basking Ridge on Saturday evening, November 1st. The comedy show and wine and cheese reception begins at 7:30pm at 40 Whitenack Road in Basking Ridge. The event is open to the public and tickets are available in advance at Congregation B'nai Israel or by calling 908-204-1412. Tickets are $36 per person.

Comedian Barry Weintraub has hosted talk radio, anchored sports television and written, produced and created programming for E! Entertainment Television, MGM TV and Comedy Central. His stand-up comedy has taken him to the finals of the San Francisco International Comedy Competition and the Montreal International Comedy Festival. Barry channels his news addiction into his stand-up and an entertaining email titled, "Headline Schmooze." He is currently hosting a series of "Scampaign 08" shows at Gotham comedy club in Manhattan.

Comedian Jessica Kirson has been featured on various television shows, including Comedy Central's "Premium Blend," NBC's "Last Call with Carson Daly," and "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." She also performed in the Off-Broadway show, "The J.A.P. Show." In 2006, Jessica was given the MAC Award for "Best Female Comic" in New York City. Her unique style and stage presence captures the attention of audiences everywhere she performs. Once you have seen her amazing talent, it is easy to understand why she was selected to perform at the Hamptons, Toyota, Marshall's Women in Comedy, Comedy Central's South Beach and HBO's Las Vegas comedy festivals.


Subject of Spielberg Documentary to Speak Nov. 14

To Commemorate Kristallnacht, Holocaust Survivor and Pulitzer-Nominee Author of the newly released The Fifth Diamond Irene Zisblatt will speak at CBI Friday evening, November 14, after services.

See her in Stephen Spielberg's Academy Award-Winning documentary, The Last Days Sunday, November 2, at 4:00 pm at CBI.

As a young girl in Hungary, Irene Weisberg Zisblatt was taken by the Nazis to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. She experienced unspeakable cruelty, lost her entire family to the gas chambers, and became one of Josef Mengele's guinea pigs. Somehow she survived; a testament to the triumph of the human spirit. She spoke about her life in Stephen Spielberg's documentary, The Last Days, and in her Pulitzer-nominated autobiography, The Fifth Diamond. She seeks to educate children, to rid the world of prejudice, intolerance, and indifference. See the documentary and then meet her in person.


Award-Winning Singer/Songwriter Big Jeff to Appear Sunday, November 16th.

Congregation B'nai Israel of Basking Ridge and the Weintal Preschool are thrilled to announce that award-winning singer/songwriter, Big Jeff will be performing on Sunday, November 16th. The concert begins at 2:30pm at 40 Whitenack Road in Basking Ridge. The performance is open to the public and tickets are available in advance at Congregation B'nai Israel or by calling Terri Crosbie, Weintal Preschool Director at 908-204-1294. Admission is $8 per person (over age 2). There will be snacks and drinks available for purchase.

"Big Jeff" DeSmedt has been sharing his folksy rocking musical fun at preschools, parties, libraries and festivals for over 10 years. He has released four children's music CDs and a concert video DVD. His debut recording, "Big Jeff," won a 2004 Children's Music Web Award for classic preschool recording.

Big Jeff began writing songs for his daughter when she was 2 years old, and he started playing for children at the New Jersey daycare center where he worked as an aide and school bus driver. As his popularity grew, he transitioned into a full-time career as a children's musician. He now tours nationally and performs regularly at numerous venues throughout New Jersey and the greater New York metropolitan area.

The performance will benefit the Weintal Preschool, which offers classes from two through five years old, as well as afternoon enrichment and early childhood education classes. The preschool is a warm, nurturing environment where children are encouraged to learn through play. The Weintal Preschool offers bright, large classrooms with experienced teachers and developmentally appropriate curriculum. The school accepts children regardless of religious beliefs.
